Outside of Amarillo Texas this canyon called Palo Duro exists, Palo Duro means "Hard Wood" in Spanish. I was able to reach a certain point because floods closed some of the roads deeper into the park. I found this spot where the canyon was very prominent and decided to paint. The contrasting reddish cliffs and green foliage make for a great subject.
This painting encountered some challenges because of the many biting flies, and limited time because I started later in the day. The results were great despite the uncomfortable setting. Painting on location can be a challenge so take into consideration.
I signed and dated the painting to the year produced. The painting is varnished for protection.
